The Power of Yeirh: Chapter 7- The Escape Plan

Vin paced back and forth in his room, thinking hard on what would be the best way to escape his bedroom. The window. Through the palace. Was there another option? He walked over to his bed and sat down, putting his head down onto his hands. He continued to think as a heavy knocking erupted at his door.
"My Prince. You must answer me. This is of utmost importance."
Vin ignored Sage's calling. He had not helped me when he should have.
"I can help you. I can get you to your father."
Vin's head shot up and turned to the door. Was he playing with his head, Vin didn't know, but it was all he had at the moment. He got up from his bed and crossed to the door, leaning his head against it, his ear pressed to the wood.
"How are you to help me?" He was still in disbelief.
"Just before your father left on his mission, he left a letter. It seems that he knew something was all wrong, and that there was a great chance that he would not return. The letter was entrusted to me, and bares your name on it along with the royal seal. This letter might help in your journey to find him."
"What journey?" Vin said, surprised by Sage's comment. How did he know I was going to go after him?
"Your journey to find your father. He is in grave danger. Please, if you come with me I will find you a way out of the City." Sage's voice sounded urgent.
"How can I tell if you are telling the truth?" Vin was still hesitant, even though it was Sage.
"You can't tell, but you have to trust me. Your father is a dear friend to both you and me, and I know you are the only one who can save him."
Vin waited with his head against the door, thinking through Sage's offer. I have to find my father, and if this is the only way, then I have to trust him. "What plan do you have?" he asked.
"Well, the food carts from the outer farms are delivering their produce to the kitchens today. Once they unload the food, you can hide in their empty carts. The guards do not check them on the way out unless they are given warning. They will go four miles away into the farm land. Once there, you can escape into the woods. From there you can use your father's letter to tell you where to go. It is the only way you will ever be able to find him. I have sent a message to my sister who lives in a small village just beyond the farm lands. There you can rest and get shelter, but only for a small time."
The door suddenly opened up and Vin and Sage were looking into each other's eyes.
"Are you to go with me?"
"No. I must stay behind and cover your disappearance." Sage looked down the hall he was standing in, then looked back to Vin. "The carts have arrived, this is your only time of escaping. Will you take this?"
Vin peaked his head out the door and down the hall, then he turned and looked at the picture that was hanging on his bedroom wall. It was showing three people: Vin's father, Vin's mother, and Vin. They all looked so happy, and only one thing could bring that back.
"Yes, I will go and find him."
"Good, then this is our time to go. Let's move now!"

The Power of Yeirh: Chapter 6- The Council of Reldum

"Lord Hessian, the people of Quay must be stopped before a full uprising ensues. We all know that the fish in the Claw Bay are dying, but that is no reason to blame King Geor or the Council. They must know this to be true!" Lord Grangion finished his banter with a swift punch in the sky, showing his true feelings about the crisis in Quay.
"Yes, yes, Lord Grangion, we all are very well aware of you standing on the matter of the fish," Lord Bransin, Head of Council, added in as Lord Grangion sat down in his seat. "He has been reminding us of this matter for months now." he whispered to a man sitting next to him. "Now do we have any other important business to speak of other than our salmon situation?" Everyone in the Council Room laughed, all but Lord Grangion who scowled and gritted his teeth.
Loud shouting from the other side of the Council Room's doors drifted to Lord Bransin's ears, stopping the whole Council in their tracks.
"What is going on..." Lord Bransin began, but stopped as the doors flew open and revealed a young man, staring in at them angrily.
"Where is my father?" Prince Vin demanded.
Lord Bransin looked at Prince Vin, stunned. What was he thinking, did he not know that we had an important meeting today. Lord Bransin looked around the at the Council and saw Lord Bransin still pouting in his seat. Well, it was to be important.
"Your father is on a very important mission for us." Lord Bransin said, trying his hardest to be reassuring.
"Yes, this I already know." Vin told him.
"Then the issue is gone, and we must continue with our struggle to save sea life." Lord Bransin gave a small snicker.
"I sent a message to my father telling him of my mother's condition..." Vin began.
"Yes, we have all heard of her condition and send our deepest regrets and prayers to her to make a fast recovery."
"She is going to die." Vin yelled out.
"Be that as it may your father is to busy at the moment."
"To busy for his family?" Vin challenged.
"That's not what I..."
"I sent a message to my father, and he did not send a message back." Vin called out over Lord Bransin.
Loud murmurs spread throughout the Council, most of them knowing that King Geor always sent back a message, especially to his only son.
Lord Bransin cleared his throat and looked down at Vin sternly. "You are sure of this."
"Very." Vin said.
"Well, that is news to us." he said to Vin and the rest of the Council.
"This I already know." Vin said to him. "I must go and find him."
"I am sorry but that is not going to happen. We are not to tell of his location." Lord Bransin turned from Vin and began to walk away as Vin's voice echoed throughout the Council Room again.
"The Law of the Missing, Dead, or Ill."
Lord Bransin stopped where he stood, frozen by what Vin had just said.
"The Law," Vin continued, "says that if the King, at any time during his reign, goes missing, dies, or becomes ill he will be temporarily replaced by the next in command. I am the next in command as the Prince. I order you to tell me where he is."
Lord Bransin searched around the room for someone to say something to go against what the Prince had just said, but he knew that there was nothing. It was the law, set by King Geor no less. Lord Bransin looked at Vin defeated and said, "Yeirh. He was going to Yeirh. There is something in Yeirh that we needed and only the King could get it for us. Our home is in danger. Do you know of the Dark Power?"
Vin closed his eyes and thought back. "Yes. It once ruled the world and everyone in it until the four gods of Reldum defeated it."
"Yes, that is true, and what you don't know is that the Dark Power has risen again. Your father was on his way to speak to the Lord of Yeirh, seeing if he would tell of a great Power's whereabouts. The Power created by the four gods. That was his mission and from what you have told us the Dark Power has taken him."
"Then we must act!" Vin exclaimed.
"Yes, we will." Lord Bransin yelled out. "Guards, send for a search group to find the King."
"No!" Vin yelled out.
"Listen here, Prince." Lord Bransin scolded him as the Council around them moved about and the guard walked out into the halls. "If you are our King for the moment then we must do everything in our power to keep you safe. Guards, take our King here and lock him in his room. Make sure he can not get out."
Two guards came and grabbed Vin by the arms, pulling him out of the open doors. Vin did not put up a fight, instead his mind was running through ideas of his own escape.

The Power of Yeirh: Chapter 5- Sage

Vin pulled out his long royal robes and put them on quickly. Even though this was an emergency he had to appear in front of people in a proper manner. These men were some of the greatest minds in the world, and they would not have a young Prince barge into their domain in his play clothes. He ran to his bedroom's door and flung it open, revealing a small, old man who looked startled by Vin's sudden burst out the door.
"Oh, young master, you gave me a fright. Should I go and get your breakfast or would you like to eat in the Dinning Hall?"
"Not now, Sage, we have a problem." Vin pushed past Sage and moved down the marble halls of the palace.
"What, don't you want breakfast anymore?" Sage called after Vin as he limped and wobbled behind the Prince.
"It is not that, Sage. Mezmur just returned from his journey to my father. He had no message around his ankle."
"You sent a message to your father. I thought he told you not to while on this outing. What could you possible have told him that could not wait?"
"My mother. She is dying. He had to know, but he sent to reply."
Sage's eyes grew wider, but went back to normal size after a few moments of thoughts. "Well perhaps your father just could not write back at this moment. He is the King by the way and is very busy. We are living in hard times by Prince, very hard times. Those three knights who recently died by fire have caused much turmoil in our City. You know this my Prince."
"That makes no difference, Sage. My father has always written back to me. His missing message tells me that something is wrong. I must go and speak to the Council of Reldum. They know what he was doing in Yeirh. They can tell me what I need to know." Vin took a sharp left turn and continued down another corridor, Sage at his heals.
"But the Council of Reldum is just beginning a meeting. You can not disturb them your highness. You may be the Prince, but you are not able to disturb such an important group of men. They could have you put under house arrest. Please listen to me, Vin."
Vin stopped abruptly and turned to look at Sage. Sage's face showed concern. Sage had been like a second father to Vin, but he didn't know what it was like to be royal. "Sage, I trust in your advice, and I have followed it many times, but I must speak to these men before it is to late. Excuse me." Vin turned back to his mission and continued down the hall. He had to get to the Council of Reldum. The Council had to know that his father was missing. Only they could tell him what was wrong and what he could do to help. Vin continued through the palace leaving all the servants in the palace shocked and wondering where the Prince could be going so early in the morning. In the palace, about to start a meeting, the Council of Reldum sat, not knowing that Prince Vin was on his way.

The Power of Yeirh: Chapter 4- Vin's Instincts

The sun was just rising over the Arch, creating a glare on the Great Palace's windows. It streamed through the heavy, gold curtains and found it's way onto a young man's face. The light danced on his eyelids and caused him to stir. His eyes opened up, and he sat bolt upright in his bed. He put his hand to his temple and moved it in a circular pattern, easing the headache that had been plaguing him for hours. He looked about his room and saw before him a lavish room with a giant wardrobe, marble and gold writ ting desk, and a bed with gold and maroon curtain hangings. Vin had had a difficult night, he had stayed with his mother for hours trying to help her during her treatments. He was deathly ill, suffering from a very rare disease known as Derugalgo Herena. It was a blood disease that spread throughout the body and effected the heart and other important organs, giving them enormous strength at first but then taking it all away leaving nothing but a small ounce of power. It was going to kill her unless a miracle occurred; very unlikely.
Vin through off his covers and moved his legs out of the bed, touching down on the cold floor. He walked over to his wardrobe and pulled the doors open revealing a closet full of extravagant clothes. He searched around, pushing aside robes and cloaks, revealing a chest. He unlocked the lock and pulls it open. A shirt and a pair of pants lay at the top of the chest's contents. He reached inside and pulled them out, pulling them on over his undergarments. He walked across his room and pulled his curtains open, revealing a great glow of light. The Great City of Garol lay before him. The buildings stood high in the sky, lights shining off of the glass and metal that were the buildings' structure. The city was breath taking. A modern marvel that brought both science and creativity to a new height.
His father was the King over the whole city as well as the world of Reldum. His father was the greatest King Reldum had ever had and he, Vin, was to be King after his father. His father had left for Yeirh to speak to the Lord of Yeirh. Vin did not know why, but he knew it was important. He knew he was not to disturb his father on his trip, but he had sent his hawk to find his father, telling him that Vin's mother was now sick. Dying. As Vin looked out of the window at the amazing city below he saw a dark shadow in the sky's distance. Vin squinted his eyes and gazed out at the approaching object. It was flying straight for his room's window. He pulled the window's doors open and let the cool air of the outside rush in. It was nice outside, just as it had been for so long. The object was getting closer now, and Vin could see now that it was his hawk, the same one who he had sent the message with. Vin waited until the hawk had flown into his room before shutting the windows.
He walked quickly to the hawk who was standing on his chair. Vin moved happily to the hawk's foot where he searched for a message. There wasn't one. That was unlike his father. His father always sent a message, no matter what was happening. As Vin looked at his hawk he noticed that the feathers on his body were bent and burnt. Something was wrong, Vin knew it. Vin had had nightmares that his father was in danger and now it seemed that he was right. He was always worried about him. His father was in trouble, and he had to do something to save him. The only people who knew where his father had been going and why were the Council of Reldum. He had to speak to them. His father was in danger, or worse, the danger could already have taken him. Vin moved away from his bed and over to his bedroom door. He knew what he had to do. His instincts were setting in.

The Power of Yeirh: Chapter 3- The Valley

The King rode through the Great Gate of the City of Yeirh and entered into the forest. As he rode on his mind began to race through what the Lord of Yeirh had just told him. How could he not want to help us save Reldum. Everyone is in danger, and if the Power is not used then we shall all be in trouble. Curse him, how dare he refuse me, I am the King. King Geor rode further into the forest and followed the main trail for quite some time until deviating from it to head for the Valley of the Arch. This trail in particular very few took into the Valley of the Arch due to it's steepness and the occasional attacks by thieves. The King pushed on through the dense forest and ducked as his horse moved under a low branch.
A loud screeching noise echoed through the forest, reverberating from the trees and the stones. The King's horse stopped where it stood and went back onto it's rear legs. King Geor held on tight and moved to calm his horse down just as a hawk flew down and landed onto a nearby branch. The King looked over to the hawk and smiled before saying, "Mezmur, I am surprised to find you here. Did Vin send you?" The hawk let out a cheerful caw and flew over to the King's outstretched arm. The King looked down to Mezmur's right foot and noticed that a small, rolled piece of parchment was tied to the hawk's foot. He moved his hand to Mezmur's right foot and untied a little piece of parchment. He unrolled it and looked down at the writing.
"Father, Mother has grown severely ill and the doctors are not hopefully. Please return as quickly as possible. Vin"
King Geor folded the paper up in his fist and threw it down onto the ground. He leaned up to his horses ear and whispered, "Karo, we must get back as quickly as possible. Marine is in trouble." The horse moved quickly at these words and galloped off into the forest with the King on his back.
King Geor was now into the valley, rushing past crags and oddly shaped trees. The sun was setting, and soon King Geor found himself in total darkness. Dark shadows hovered over the King as he rode on. Hell trolls lived in the caves of this particular valley, very dangerous and known for their killing, hence the first part of their name. As he moved onward another loud screech came up from the high peeks. King Geor stopped his horse and looked up into the high peeks, looking for Mezmur. But the hawk never came. What he found was a dark smoke heading down toward him from the night's sky. King Geor looked at it for a moment, then moved on his horse, trying with all his might to escape the smoke. He galloped away, passing all manors of trees and rocks, trying to escape this looming threat, but found that it soon engrossed him. He let out a loud yell and all went black.

The Power of Yeirh: Chapter 2- The Dark Attack

King Geor moved his way quickly through the corridor, searching for his way to the palace stables. This whole trip was useless, he thought to himself as he passed two servants who moved out of his way quickly. That great idiot is going to get us all killed if he continues to resist my wishes. King Geor descended the great staircase and continued to storm his way through the palace. The stable doors were already opened and waiting for the King to come through; his horse waited patiently, it's legs moving about. King Geor swung his leg over the horses saddle and prepared for his long journey back to the City of Garol. His horse galloped through the palace's courtyard and off into the main city's street. People looked up at King Geor as he rushed past, surprised by his sudden appearance. King Geor knew he had to get out of the city as soon as possible.
The Lord of Yeirh looked out at the city streets and watched as the King rode off toward the woods and mountains. "Was I right?' he asked his servant who stood behind him, watching the King as well. "Is it possible that King Geor was right. Is the Dark Power really back?"
"It is." the servant said.
"How can you be sure? You are only a servant." the Lord of Yeirh snapped out.
"I am more than you know..." the servant concluded.
"What?" the Lord of Yeirh said, turning around to look at the servant behind him. "What are...!" He froze mid-sentence and moved back, tripping over his cloak and falling down onto the ground. The servant moved forward and stood over the Lord of Yeirh. The servant's eyes glowed a brilliant blue, and a dark, black smoke filtered out of the man's mouth, heading for the Lord's body. The smoke tied its self around the Lord and moved it's way up to his face. The Lord of Yeirh tried to scream, but soon the smoke was pushing into the man's mouth, stopping his breathing and his heart. The black smoke continued into the dead man's body until the smoke was no longer outside the man. The body of the Lord of Yeirh moved sporadically, his arms flailing about. The Lord's eyes flew open and a brilliant blue glowed out. He pushed himself up until he was standing straight up, looking at the possessed servant.
"Are the plans set?" the body of the Lord asked the servant.
"Yes. He will soon be dead. Everything is going as planned."
"Good. Soon we will all be in control." The Lord of Yeirh's body turned and looked out at the city. The King was exiting the city and was soon lost into the forest.
"So it begins."

The Power of Yeirh: Chapter 1- The Message

King Geor sat silently in the large hall, waiting patiently for the Lord of Yeirh to come back inside from the outer room. They had business to attend to, important life changing business. The Lord of Yeirh was a very stubborn man who had not desire to corporate with King Geor, he never had. King Geor tapped his fingers on the arm rest of his chair before slamming his fist down onto the table in front of him, in aggravation. "Where is he?" he grumbled to himself.
The Lord of Yeirh was pacing frantically, his mind was unnerved by what King Geor was requesting. The Power was hidden well, no one but the Highest Lords of Reldum knew where it was hidden. He lifted his hand to his face and stroked his long, black beard. This was a dilemma, far beyond anything he had ever been put up against. The Dark Power was real, that was true, but it had not been active in many years. If the Power was set free to destroy the Dark Power and it truly had not been active once more than all hope of protection was gone. "I must tell him." the Lord of Yeirh said reassuringly. "It is the right thing to do." He walked to the door and opened it quickly, walking inside to rejoin King Geor.
King Geor was surprised by the Lord of Yeirh's fast pace as he walked across the hall and rejoined him in the empty seat facing the King. "What is your decision?" King Geor asked him as he took his seat.
"The Power is safe and you have nothing to worry about. It must stay where it is." the Lord of Yeirh told him sternly. "I do not feel that it would be wise to give you the Power until a threat is clearly shown. The Power must not be used until such time."
"But there is a threat! Reldum is in danger. The Dark Power has just possessed three of my men, causing them to set themselves of fire, burning a message in my royal food fields." The Lord of Yeirh moved about uncomfortably.
"What was the message?" he asked the King.
King Geor stood up and glared down at the man in front of him. "Will it make any difference in what you decide with the Power?" he asked.
"No." the Lord of Yeirh told him rebelliously.
King Geor turned from the Lord of Yeirh and walked to the great wooden doors that led to the main corridor of the Palace of Yeirh. He grasped the large handle of the door and pulled it toward himself, revealing a large marble corridor. He turned back to the Lord of Yeirh and said, "Reldum is at an end. Death is coming. No Power can stop us now?" He exited the room and walked out into the corridor, leaving the Lord of Yeirh speechless.
"The Dark Power can not have returned!"
