The Power of Yeirh: Chapter 7- The Escape Plan

Vin paced back and forth in his room, thinking hard on what would be the best way to escape his bedroom. The window. Through the palace. Was there another option? He walked over to his bed and sat down, putting his head down onto his hands. He continued to think as a heavy knocking erupted at his door.
"My Prince. You must answer me. This is of utmost importance."
Vin ignored Sage's calling. He had not helped me when he should have.
"I can help you. I can get you to your father."
Vin's head shot up and turned to the door. Was he playing with his head, Vin didn't know, but it was all he had at the moment. He got up from his bed and crossed to the door, leaning his head against it, his ear pressed to the wood.
"How are you to help me?" He was still in disbelief.
"Just before your father left on his mission, he left a letter. It seems that he knew something was all wrong, and that there was a great chance that he would not return. The letter was entrusted to me, and bares your name on it along with the royal seal. This letter might help in your journey to find him."
"What journey?" Vin said, surprised by Sage's comment. How did he know I was going to go after him?
"Your journey to find your father. He is in grave danger. Please, if you come with me I will find you a way out of the City." Sage's voice sounded urgent.
"How can I tell if you are telling the truth?" Vin was still hesitant, even though it was Sage.
"You can't tell, but you have to trust me. Your father is a dear friend to both you and me, and I know you are the only one who can save him."
Vin waited with his head against the door, thinking through Sage's offer. I have to find my father, and if this is the only way, then I have to trust him. "What plan do you have?" he asked.
"Well, the food carts from the outer farms are delivering their produce to the kitchens today. Once they unload the food, you can hide in their empty carts. The guards do not check them on the way out unless they are given warning. They will go four miles away into the farm land. Once there, you can escape into the woods. From there you can use your father's letter to tell you where to go. It is the only way you will ever be able to find him. I have sent a message to my sister who lives in a small village just beyond the farm lands. There you can rest and get shelter, but only for a small time."
The door suddenly opened up and Vin and Sage were looking into each other's eyes.
"Are you to go with me?"
"No. I must stay behind and cover your disappearance." Sage looked down the hall he was standing in, then looked back to Vin. "The carts have arrived, this is your only time of escaping. Will you take this?"
Vin peaked his head out the door and down the hall, then he turned and looked at the picture that was hanging on his bedroom wall. It was showing three people: Vin's father, Vin's mother, and Vin. They all looked so happy, and only one thing could bring that back.
"Yes, I will go and find him."
"Good, then this is our time to go. Let's move now!"
